Common questions

Long COVID clinics in Canada: frequently asked questions

Is there a long COVID clinic in my province?

It depends on where you live. British Columbia has the public virtual Post-COVID Recovery Clinic and the BC Centre for Long COVID, ME/CFS & Fibromyalgia, which also accepts patients from Yukon. Quebec has a public network of long COVID clinics. Nova Scotia Health runs a Post-COVID Service that does not require a primary care provider. Ontario has programs in Toronto, Oakville and Owen Sound. Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut have no publicly funded long COVID clinic. In Alberta and Saskatchewan, the only option is private care from Breathe Well Physio. If your province or territory has no clinic, tell your MLA.

There is no long COVID clinic in my province. What can I do?

Take action on long COVID

Do I need a referral to go to a long COVID clinic?

Most public long COVID clinics listed here need a referral from a doctor or nurse practitioner, including BC’s Post-COVID Recovery Clinic, the BC Centre for Long COVID, ME/CFS & Fibromyalgia, the Quebec clinic network and the Ontario programs. Nova Scotia Health’s Post-COVID Service accepts a doctor’s referral or an outreach survey you complete yourself. Private providers such as Breathe Well Physio and Dr. Angela Grace can be booked directly. Tick “No referral needed” above to see them.

I don’t have a family doctor. How can I get long COVID care?

In Nova Scotia you can reach the Post-COVID Service without a primary care provider. In Quebec, several clinic pages point people without a family doctor to the Guichet d’accès à la première ligne, reached through 811, option 3. Elsewhere, a nurse practitioner, walk in clinic or virtual care clinic may be able to assess you and write a referral. While you wait, the Online Resources page links to free guides on pacing and talking to your doctor from trusted organizations.

Are long COVID clinics in Canada free?

Public clinics are covered by provincial health insurance, so they are free with a valid health card. They are marked “Free (public)” on this page. Private providers, marked “$ Paid”, charge fees that may be covered by extended health benefits. Some public clinics charge for missed appointments or paperwork, so check each clinic’s page.

Is there a long COVID clinic for children in Canada?

Outside Quebec, there is no publicly funded long COVID clinic for children in Canada. The only one is at CHU Sainte-Justine in Montréal, which serves children in Quebec and needs a referral from a doctor or specialized nurse practitioner. Children everywhere else depend on their family doctor or pediatrician. See the Kids and long COVID page for support and resources.

Children deserve care too. Write to your MLA and ask for a publicly funded long COVID clinic for children in your province, or visit the Recognition and Advocacy page to take action in 5 minutes.

Why do long COVID clinics change or close?

Clinics change often. For example, Santé Québec Estrie says its long COVID clinic is being reorganized after its medical director retired at the end of December 2025, with delays for new patients. Programs are removed from this page when they cannot be confirmed on an official page. Know of a change? Share it here (opens in a new tab).

What should I bring to my first long COVID appointment?

Bring a list of your symptoms and when they started, how they affect your daily life, and a list of your medications. You can also print a free symptom checklist or clinician guide from a trusted organization, such as the UHN Long COVID Clinic Symptom Checklist, the Bateman Horne Center’s Clinical Care Guide for ME/CFS & Long COVID, or the #MEAction Pacing & Management Guide. Links to all three are on the Online Resources page.

How does Long Covid Resources Canada keep this clinic list accurate?

On September 27, 2026, every clinic link was opened and each listing was checked against the clinic’s own page. Broken links were replaced with the official current page. Information pages, programs that are not specific to long COVID, and programs that could not be confirmed were removed. No clinic pays to be listed, and a listing is not an endorsement.

Run a long COVID clinic, or spot a change?

Healthcare providers can ask to be listed by emailing admin@longcovidresourcescanada.ca. Patients, please tell us if a clinic has closed or a phone number has changed.
